After a tough win over Clemson, the Panthers only had a few hours to rest before taking on Auburn under the lights. Freshman goalie Travis O’Connor held his ground throughout the game to keep Auburn to only four goals. Defender #28 Max Carlson also stepped up, playing a physical game and fighting hard to keep Pittsburgh’s momentum up. In the first quarter, Carlson had an unassisted goal to kick off the game, followed by a goal by #21 Joe Grmusa less than 10 seconds after the face off. Auburn then managed to score three goals to end the first quarter with Pittsburgh down 2-3.

This back and forth fight continued during the second quarter, with the defensive power duo Carlson and O’Connor fighting to keep Auburn to one goal. Goalie O’Connor had 4 saves during this quarter, totaling 8 saves during the first half. The offense also worked hard to take the lead before halftime, with #0 Alex Powel scoring to tie the game with 2 minutes left in the half. Going into halftime, #10 Chris Wetzel scored a goal at the buzzer, putting the Panthers in the lead with a score of 4-3.

During the second half, Pittsburgh’s offense gained momentum, while O’Connor remained a fortress in the goal, letting in only one Auburn goal in the third quarter. #14 Novotny managed to put one point on the board for the Panthers during the third quarter, assisted by #9 Matt Wolfe. The fourth quarter proved to be the best quarter once again for the Panther’s offense, #21 Joe Grmusa gave the Panthers a two point lead early in the quarter, assisted by #2 Bryan Peck. After winning the face off, #4 Josh Sutterfield ran the ball straight the goal, putting it in the back of the net. Novotny wrapped up the game with two goals, giving the Pittsburgh Panthers a 9-4 win over the Auburn Tigers.

The Panthers take on Georgia Tech at 1PM later this afternoon, hoping to make it an undefeated weekend in Georgia. Follow @PittPanthersLAX for live game updates.
