Pitt beats Clemson 8-6 on the RoadMar. 2, 2013 After a hard fought battle on the field, the Panthers were able to dominate the Clemson Tigers, remaining undefeated for the season. #14 Tyler Novotny scored the first goal of the game 5 minutes into the first quarter, shortly followed with a goal by #21 Joe Grmusa, assisted by #0 Alex Powell. Pitt’s defense stayed strong throughout the quarter, with 2 saves by #22 goalie Drew Miller and solid man-to-man defense by #17 Eric Bulgarelli. Clemson scored one goal to end the first quarter with a Pitt lead of 2-1. Clemson started the second quarter with a goal to tie the game, which was quickly avenge by Novotny, putting the Panthers back in the lead. Throughout the remainder of a very physical first half, Clemson scored two more goals, taking 4-3 lead at the end of the half. Panthers defense continued to fight during the second quarter, but Clemson managed to put in two goals. However, #2 Bryan Peck stepped up with a goal assisted by Powell, ending the third quarter with a score of 4-6, Clemson. Pitt dominated the fourth quarter, keeping Clemson scoreless and finding opportunities offensively. The Panthers started the quarter with a goal by #9, Matt Wolfe, assisted by Novotny. After intercepting the clear, Novotny put one in the back of the net to tie up the game. With momentum going, Wolfe scored another goal after rebounding the ball off of the goalie’s stick. Panthers defense continued to be tested throughout the quarter with a big save by Pitt’s goalie, Drew Miller, late in the game. Finally, #21 Grmusa assisted #14 Novotny in the last goal of the game, giving the Panthers an 8-6 victory over Clemson. The Pittsburgh Panthers take on Auburn tonight at 7PM.
