Weekend Recap- Pitt Tallies Wins Against Grove City, Central Michigan
CMU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after only one minute of play. After a shaky start, Junior attackman Tyler Novotny answered with a goal of his own, assisted by Sophomore Alex Powell. Powell then dished another assist to Freshman Matt Wolfe to put the Panthers up 2-1. The Chippewas found the net with four minutes left in the first quarter, before Sophomore defenseman Max Carlson added a goal to finish the quarter, 3-2 Pitt. Novotny countered two CMU goals with a couple of his own in the second quarter to bring the score to 5-4 with Pitt in the lead at halftime. The third quarter was all about Joe Grmusa and Alex Powell. Both attackman netted two goals a piece for the Panthers, assisted by Tyler Novotny and Freshman Tom Pham. Pitt spent two minutes in the penalty box, allowing CMU to put in 3 goals, bringing the third quarter to a close at 9-7, Pitt still ahead. Pitt came out firing in the fourth quarter. Grmusa notched two more goals, and Powell and Wolfe each found the net once more. Sophomore Paul Razgaitis added one last goal to bring the final score to 14-7. “It was a great team effort that led us to victory today,” noted Senior midfielder Elliott Clakeley, “We’re starting to see our hard work pay off, and hopefully it takes us far this season.” The Panthers will travel to Athens, Ohio to take on divisional rival Ohio University on Saturday, February 25th. The game is set for 1:00 PM. Note: On Saturday, February 18, the Panthers claimed a 12-5 win against MCLA DII opponent Grove City College. This was the final scrimmage for the 2012 pre-season. #H2P
