Offensive Coordinator and Co-Head Coach Sean O'Brien to Leave Program

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Jun. 13, 2011

After two great seasons at the helm of the University of Pittsburgh's Offense, Co-Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Sean O'Brien informed the team over the weekend that he would not be returning to his position next season as he will be moving out of state this summer with his Wife and a career move that takes his family to Ft. Myers, Florida.

Under his tutelage, O'Brien helped turn the Panthers around as the team went 18-13 in the past two seasons.

O’Brien overhauled the Pitt offense as his first order of business two years ago.  His efforts lead the team to score 310 total goals during the past two season over 31 games (10.0 GPG), and lead the Panthers to back-to-back CCLA playoff appearances.  This was versus an effort of 97 total goals scored over 11 games (8.8 GPG), and a 5-6 overall record the season before O'Brien arrived.

The Pitt Panthers also saw six players named to the all-CCLA team on the offensive side in his two seasons.

“You guys and the ‘burgh have been great to me over the past two years,” said O’Brien in an e-mail to the coaching staff in regards to the program. “It's a hard place to leave for sure, and you guys make it harder"

We all are very sad to see him go, but we all wish Sean O'Brien and his wife the best of luck with their move and new life in Florida.

With O'Brien's departure, the Panthers have begun actively searching for his replacement as offensive coordinator and assistant coach for the upcoming 2011-2012 season.

We are looking for a qualified candidate with an offensive knowledge of the game, coaching experience (preferably at the college level), and a dedication to continue moving and building the program in a positive direction.

If you are interested in this position, please e-mail head coach Sean Buzzard (buzz@pittpantherslax.com) with a resume of coaching and lacrosse experience, and cover letter stating your interest.  All are encouraged to apply
