Double Overtime Victory for the Panthers

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Mar. 29, 2011

It took two overtime periods in a back and forth game, but the Panthers came up with another win over the Huskies in their second overtime meeting with Northeastern over the past two season. Junior Midfielder Pat Bursch scored the game winning goal and had a game high 6 points.  Sophomore Tyler Novotny and Freshman Alex Powell also lead the Panthers with four points each.  Freshman Goalie Drew Miller came up with multiple critical saves replacing the injured captain and goalie Chris Gorham, leading the panthers defense to the win.  That Panthers improved to 4-2 on the season with this win.

This week, the Panther's have a mid-week game as they match up in this year's edition of the Forbes Road Rivalry, traveling a mere mile down the road to play the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans on Wednesday Night (3/30), and a Saturday afternoon pivotal division home game versus Ohio University (4/2).

Last year, the Panthers came out on top beating the Tartans 7-3.  The Tartans (4-1, 1-1) this year are lead by goalie Spencer Rice (77 saves, 68.1% Save percentage) and senior midfielder Mark Hepburn (19G, 2A), and are coming off road victories over Butler University and John Carroll University last weekend.  Game time for the Forbes Road Rivalry is set for 7:30 PM at CMU.  A preview of this game can be found at http://mcla.us/scores/games/9573/

Also this week, a pivotal game as Division rival Ohio University comes to Pittsburgh this Saturday.  Ohio U is a recent transfer to the MCLA, after finishing 5th in the NCLL last season and posting a 59-9 record over the past five season in their club lacrosse league.  Ohio (1-2, 0-1) is currently lead by Senior Attackman Jon Hoelzel (5G, 4A) and Junior Midfielder Harrison Hess (4G, 4A) A victory for either team in this game will determine the second play off berth in the CCLA Division 1 play offs in Saline, MI at the end of April.

The Pitt/Ohio game will be played in the Cost Center.  Game time is set for 2 PM.  Admission is $5 for adults, and $2 for children, students, and any local lacrosse player (high school or younger).  You may have to pay for parking ($5-10) at the cost center, and seating is limited (bring a chair!)

More information for the Pitt/Ohio game can be found on our facebook site or at http://mcla.us/scores/games/9083/

Come out to watch some good lacrosse, and support your Pittsburgh Panther's Lacrosse team!  Hail to Pitt!
