2015 Helmet Design Released - Feb 6, 2015
In coordination with the Department of the Navy, the University of Oklahoma Men’s Lacrosse program received special permission to honor the team’s biggest inspiration on our 2014/2015 helmets: the Navy Special Warfare community!
Two years ago, we had the distinct honor of working with a Navy SEAL + SWCC Scout team as they spent a week training us physically and mentally. The experience was life-changing for the entire team; from the players to the coaching staff, and it has left its lasting mark on the program, so much so that our current Senior class sought some way to both thank and honor the Navy Special Warfare community for their service to our country, but also to remind our team of the great lessons we were taught about what it means to be a great teammate!
We reached out to our friends at ZimaGear and they created this subtle yet stunning design to honor our heroes!
We are humbled and unbelievably thankful to have the chance to carry the SEAL trident, and the legacy it stands for, with us into each and every game as we seek to honor not only SEAL and SWCC Team Members both past and present but just as importantly, to honor what righteous and outstanding ideals they represent.
The SEAL Ethos, which our team reads before every game, states: “My Trident is a symbol of honor and heritage. Bestowed upon me by the heroes that have gone before, it embodies the trust of those I have sworn to protect. By wearing the Trident I accept the responsibility of my chosen profession and way of life. It is a privilege that I must earn every day.”
It is important to note that we do not claim to have earned the privilege of wearing the Trident in recognition of any of our own accomplishments, on the contrary, we simply seek to honor those members of the SEAL + SWCC teams who do earn it every day and in doing so provide inspiration and guiding examples of what it means to be a successful team to more people than they’ll ever know!
In one final act of honor to the Navy Special Warfare community, at the end of the season, we will be selling a limited quantity of helmets with all money raised being donated to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Again, this is a tremendous honor that we are truly humbled to have and as a team, we will work tirelessly to ensure that we do the community proud!
