Ground Balls

We will emphasize being a great ground ball team. It will be up to players to buy into the effort and hustle required for us to be a great ground ball team.  The reward will be worth the effort.

Defense

We will pressure the ball everywhere on the field on defense and double team it before it is dangerous. This starts with our team Ride system defending the other team's clear. Once the other team settles on offense our base defense will be one defender pressuring the ball everywhere and the other six players at 8 to 12 meters out from the goal to back up that pressure.  Anywhere means pressure the opponent with the ball up top, on the wings and behind the goal.  Players should be willing to take chances and play behind the goal and go for interceptions.

Clears & Rides

We will use a standard Up & Out into an L Clear for our clearing game and we will use a Soft Ride when we are defending the other team's clear.

Offense

Our progression on offense will emphasize Fast Break first, Slow Break second, a 1-5-1 Early Offense third and then a 2-3-2 Offense once things settle. The inside picking game will be a big part of our offense. Everyone will need to understand the value of working together with someone to both help them get open and get themselves open. Most aspects of our offense on the outside will emphasize the dummy dodge concept to move the ball to move it again to then find a teammate open inside in front of the goal.  Players will have to be willing to go to goal to draw the slide but then have to be just as willing to move the ball multiple times hitting singles and not home runs to create offense.

Game Videos To Watch

Three game videos to watch are listed below.  Look for how Syracuse players move without the ball in transition and on offense, how they move with the ball and find each other open inside. They dodge to goal well for their own finishes but they are always looking for each other. Watch how they pressure out on the ball on defense and back each other up to create turnovers and initiate the offense.

ACC Quarterfinal:      Syracuse vs. Boston College
ACC Semifinal:   Syracuse vs. Duke
ACC Final:
  Syracuse. vs. North Carolina

Please watch these games in order.  This is a great progression of Syracuse advancing through their conference tournament to a championship. They upset a team that beat them in the regular season each conference game on their way to the title.

Lacrosse IQ

By the end of the Miission Lacrosse season it is hoped that everyone in the program will have raised their lacrosse IQ.
