Kilbourne Reaches Another State Semifinal

Despite the prognosis for a rebuilding year, the Worthington Kilbourne High School boys lacrosse team found itself in a Division I state semifinal for the fourth time since 2005.

The Wolves defeated Sylvania Southview 14-8 in the Northwest regional final last Saturday to improve to 16-5 and faced Medina in a state semifinal last Wednesday.

"The experience of being in the state tournament might help, but we're a different team than last year," coach Drew May said. "We have a lot of new faces in leadership roles this year."

Against Southview, Cory Spencer scored three goals, Charlie Bassani, Conor Igoe and Payden Pierce each scored two and goalkeeper Cole Horwatt had 14 saves.

The semifinal winner faces Upper Arlington or Mason in the state final at 7 p.m. Saturday at Dublin Jerome.

The Wolves defeated UA 7-6 in the state final last year, but lost to the Golden Bears 16-5 on May 5. After giving up 29 goals in the two-day MSLCA "A" bracket tournament, UA, which was 16-2 before playing Mason last Wednesday, allowed 26 goals in its next five games.
