A win, especially a 20-4 win, is nice to have, especially in the first round of the Division I Ohio High School Lacrosse Association boys tournament.

That's what Worthington Kilbourne chalked up Saturday, May 22, when it hosted Westerville Central.

But the Wolves are not particularly focused on the score, according to coach Drew May.

"We approach every game in the tournament that every game could be your last game," said May. "So we just strive to do the best we can and focus on that task at hand.

"We try not to look ahead. And especially now, having done that all year, now in the playoffs, that just becomes second nature.

The Wolves (14-5) got scoring from seemingly everyone, led by four goals by midfielder Will Campbell. Attack Charlie Bassani put in another three scores, and there were two goals each by MF Conor Igoe, MF Tyler Johnson and attack Brian Miller. Seven other Kilbourne players also found the net.

The Wolves got the opportunity to use three goalkeepers: Cole Horwatt (seven saves), Alex Wylly (two) and Alex Watson (one).

Now WKHS heads out of town to the Akron area, to play at Green of the Northeast region in a regional semifinal Wednesday, May 26 (7:30 p.m.).

"It will be interesting going on the road...and playing an opponent we've never played before," May said.

The winner plays a regional final at the Northwest site Saturday, May 29 (7:30 p.m.).

"As defending state champions, it's obviously in the back of your mind," said Campbell. "You always want to meet those expectations, winning a state championship again.

"But we really, as a team...we're either hot or cold. There's no in-between. We've just really got to stay focused, and focus on the next game.

"It's hard to, but that's really important if we want to be successful."

Campbell, a North Carolina recruit and already an Under Armour All-American, has picked up his second All-American honor, along with Igoe, who will play collegiately at Jacksonville, Fla.

Campbell, Igoe, attack Cory Spencer and defenseman Jake Hertenstein have also received All-Region honors, while Horwatt got second-team All-Region, and Watson and MF Kyle Giannamore honorable mentions.
