Wolves Roll Into Regional Semi-Finals

The boys lacrosse team was looking to return to the Division II, Region 7 final when it played at second-seeded DeSales in a semifinal May 23.

The winner plays top-seeded Watterson or fifth-seeded Granville in the final Saturday, May 27, at a neutral site to be determined. The regional champion plays Cincinnati Mariemont, Cincinnati Seven Hills, Cincinnati Summit Country Day or Cincinnati Indian Hill in a state semifinal Wednesday, May 31, at a neutral site to be determined.

The state final is June 3 at Ohio Wesleyan.

Third-seeded Kilbourne was 10-10 before playing DeSales and was seeking to avenge a 20-10 loss to the Stallions on April 11.

The reigning state champion Wolves lost to Watterson 9-8 in double overtime in the season opener March 18, but did not play Granville or any of the aforementioned Cincinnati teams in the regular season.

Kilbourne opened the postseason by defeating 14th-seeded Johnstown 18-4 in the second round May 16 and beat sixth-seeded Columbus Academy 15-6 in a quarterfinal May 19.

“It was good to get those first two wins and we’re confident in our abilities, but know we’ll have to play our best to get through DeSales and get through this region,” coach Drew May said. “I think we’re executing fairly well on offense and defense right now.

“Jake LeVette had three goals against Academy and is playing well, and our close defense has been very strong all season with Jack Trombetti, Curt Grawe and Adam Clay. I think the faceoff crew is always best with seniors during the tournament. Liam Graney and Jack have been solid at the wings, with Grant Snodgrass, Nick Parmi and Aidan Cameron all doing well in the faceoffs.”

Clay and Ryan Wesolowski both added two goals against Academy. Against Johnstown, Carson Kott had five goals and William Alban scored three.
