Schedule Testing Wolves Boys

The Worthington Kilbourne High School boys lacrosse team has had trouble putting together a lengthy winning streak this season, but part of that could be because of its strength of schedule.

According to LaxPower.com, the Wolves have the second-hardest schedule in the state, behind only Upper Arlington.

"Championships aren't won in April and May, but there's no doubt this schedule has us prepared for the playoffs," coach Drew May said. "We're getting tested every game and building on our abilities."

The Wolves defeated St. Charles 13-6 on April 30 and then topped Thomas 9-5 on May 3 to give them consecutive wins for the first time since winning four games in a row between April 6 and April 16.

However, Kilbourne lost to Cleveland St. Ignatius 8-7 in triple overtime on May 6 and was 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the OCC-Buckeye Division before playing UA on May 10. The Wolves close the regular season Thursday, May 12, at home against Dublin Scioto.

Kilbourne then will prepare for the postseason. The Division II Central Region tournament draw is Sunday, May 15, with first-round games scheduled for May 19.

"Beating our rival is always a good thing and the boys were excited to play Thomas," May said. "It was a solid team win across the board. Unfortunately, we didn't take advantage of our opportunities in regulation and the first two overtimes against St. Ignatius."

According to May, among the standouts for the Wolves have been attacker Luke LeVette, faceoff specialist Grant Snodgrass and close defenders Jack Trombetti, Curt Grawe and Liam Nehring.

"Our close defense is really coming together as a unit and playing well," May said.
