Wolves Look to Finish Shots

After his team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 9-7 loss to Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice on April 17, Worthington Kilbourne High School boys lacrosse coach Drew May was anticipating a better effort from his players three days later in a 13-3 loss to Olentangy Liberty.

"We have not consistently performed at a high level," said May, whose team was 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the OCC-Buckeye Division before playing Dublin Coffman on April 27. "We'll have two good days and then one bad day. We've talked to these guys about this all season.

"You are who you are on a daily basis. You are the team you are during practices every day. If you want to be a great team, you have to practice great every day."

The Wolves will play at St. Charles on Saturday, April 30, before their annual grudge match at Thomas on Tuesday, May 3.

Kilbourne opened 1-4 before winning four games in a row, beating Olentangy (12-11 in overtime on April 6), DeSales (10-6 on April 12), Hilliard Davidson (9-6 on April 13) and University of Detroit Jesuit (10-7 on April 16).

"It has come down to not finishing quality shots," May said. "That's been the difference. We've had some guys who have played well. I think Jack Maloney has done well consistently in the midfield and (midfielder) Jared Happ and (attacker) Luke LeVette also have played well. We've seen steady improvement from our young defense, but they still have a way to go."
