Wolves Drop Out of Nike/US Lacrosse Regional Poll

After being ranked in the Top 10 of the Nike/US Lacrosse Midwest Region Poll for the past five weeks, the Wolves have dropped out of the regional rankings. Kilbourne looks to make it back into the regional poll after this weekend's NALI Tournament as the other three teams in Kilbourne's bracket are all ranked - Upper Arlington (#2), Loyola Academy (IL) (#3) and Dublin Jerome (#8). Here is this week's poll:

Midwest Region Top 10 - May 13

1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 21-0

The Eagles deserve serious consideration for the national top spot. They continue to blitz through every elite team in the Midwest, most recently doubling up on New Trier (Ill.) and tripling up on Loyola Academy (Ill.). Most impressive, they've reached 16 goals in 14 straight, averaging 19.6 goals per contest over that time.

2. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 13-2

After starting May with a difficult loss to Culver Academy (Ind.), the Golden Bears have thoroughly bounced back with four straight wins, including three over 10-plus win Ohio teams. Solid victories over Worthington Kilbourne, Cincinnati St. Xavier and Loveland are impressive.

3. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 10-3

It's hard to imagine the Ramblers not being disappointed by their most recent 18-5 loss to Culver Academy (Ind.). Sure, Culver has beaten plenty of other top teams by similar margins, but still one might have expected better out of Illinois' defending state champion.

4. Liberty-Olentangy (Ohio), 13-3

The Patriots have won eight of nine following a brief mid-season slide. Tripling up on local rival Olentangy and edging Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 4-3, has pushed this team back up in the rankings.

5. Brother Rice (Mich.), 13-3

Since a stunning stretch that saw Brother Rice lose its first in-state game in years, the Warriors have emphatically stepped up their game, avenging themselves against Detroit Country Day (Mich.), twice defeating Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) by solid margins and even downing Carmel (Ind.).

6. Carmel (Ind.), 12-3

The Greyhounds have flown into the picture with wins in nine of 10 and a stalwart defense that has yielded just 5.2 goals per contest over that stretch. They tacked onto their impressive grudge match victory against Cincinnati St. Xavier (Ohio) by tripling up on Zionsville (Ind.), one of the top teams in the Hoosier State, on the road.

7. MICDS (Mo.), 15-2

The Rams end their 2014 regular season with nine straight wins, including 38 goals in their final two. With Christian Brothers (Mo.) also standing at just two losses, it looks like we could be set for another classic Show-Me State final.

8. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 11-3

The Celtics' two wins over the Wolves put them on the list, but they have to figure out some way to spark an offense that has scored in the single digits in five straight contests. They combined for just seven goals in losses to Culver Academy (Ill.) and Liberty-Olentangy (Ohio).

9. Champlin Lake (Minn.), 7-0

The Rebels, which ended 2013 having won six of seven, have jumped out to an impressive start in 2014. One of the few Minnesota teams without a blemish, Champlin Lake has taken advantage of home with wins over in-state foes Eastview (Minn.), Anoka (Minn.) and Bloom Jefferson (Minn.) - the latter in four overtimes.

10. Rosemount (Minn.), 6-1

No one has really leapt out thus far in Minnesota high school boys lacrosse. With road wins at Eastview (Minn.) and Eagan (Minn.), Rosemount along with Champlin Lake is probably as close as the state currently has to a standout team.
