Wolves Surge to No. 2 in Nike/US Lacrosse Regional Poll

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Apr. 29, 2014

Following it's dominating 11-5 win over archrival Upper Arlington, Kilbourne has jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Midwest Regional Poll. Here is this week's poll:

MIDWEST REGION - April 29

1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 17-0
For those who thought the Eagles would be emboldened by their perfect trip east, they were right. No team has come within 10 goals of Culver since.

2. Worthington Kilbourne (Ohio), 10-0
If the Wolves can make it through a difficult stretch of in-state play undefeated, with contests against Upper Arlington (Ohio), Dublin Jerome (Ohio) and Olentangy (Ohio), they'll have earned their place in the region's top two.

3. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 8-2
After a far from perfect trip east (when compared to Culver, anyway), the Ramblers have rebounded with eight straight wins. They showed poise recently, winning their last three by a combined four goals.

4. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 8-1
The Celtics have won seven in a row, five in dominant fashion. Now comes their hardest test, a battle against Worthington Kilbourne (Ohio).

5. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 8-1
The Golden Bears' offense has been a little shaky this season, scoring 10 goals or fewer in six of nine games.

6. Brother Rice (Mich.), 7-3
A defense that gave up 24 goals over its first six games has yielded 49 over its last four. The Warriors hope a series of tests against some of Detroit's best (Country Day and Catholic Central) and some of the continent's best (Culver and Hill Academy) pays off come postseason time.

7. New Trier (Ill.), 6-6
The Trevians are not off to the same start they were last year, when they won eight of their first nine and 15 of 17. They have plenty of time though, with chances to prove themselves in-state (Evanston (Ill.), Lake Forest (Ill.) and Saint Viator (Ill.) are a combined 26-7) and against the region's foremost team, Culver (Ind.).

8. Lake Forest (Ill.), 10-2
Keep an eye out on a traditional powerhouse here, particularly following an impressive victory at Lyons Township (Ill.). The Scouts' sole losses are to Loyola and Columbus Catholic (Fla.) in their fourth game in four days.

9. Clarkston (Ohio), 8-1
Despite a defense that has statistically struggled at times, allowing 7.9 goals per game, the Wolves are off to a powerful start, including two overtime victories in their last four games. St. Michael's College (Ohio) on Sunday might have been their best win yet.

10. MICDS (Mo.), 11-2
The Rams have won five in a row, including a 10-3 victory over the same Cathedral (Ind.) team that was able to defeat in-state rival Christian Brothers (Mo.).
