Kilbourne No. 3 in the Midwest
Apr. 10, 2014
Undefeated Kilbourne is now the No. 3 ranked team in the midwest according the Lacrosse Magazine, a publication of US Lacrosse. Here are the Nike/US Lacrosse Midwest rankings as of April 9:
Midwest Region Top 10
1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 8-0 Coach Jon Posner wasn't kidding about this being the best Eagles team yet. They're 8-0, have scored 11-plus goals in every game and have beat the likes of Gilman (Md.) and McDonogh (Md.).
2. Brother Rice (Mich.), 4-0 The Warriors have been dominant of late, winning their last three games by a 44-7 margin. They'll need to keep up the high level of play going into an April 13 matchup against Culver Academy (Ind.).
3. Worthington Kilbourne (Ohio), 4-0 The Wolves' impressive 3-0 road trip included a win over previously undefeated Liberty-Olentangy (Ohio) and an 8-6 win over New Trier (Ill.).
4. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 4-2 Like a mild spring breeze following a brutal winter, the Ramblers' recent run of in-state competition must feel rather pleasant compared to their opening slate against Calvert Hall (Md.) and Boys' Latin (Md.). They've won four straight by the decisive margin of 62-14.
5. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 2-0 The Golden Bears have rattled off two straight wins to start their season, including an impressive 10-6 victory over Dublin Jerome (Ohio) on the road. They now get five straight home games to pad their record before packing their sticks for a swing through Worthington Kilbourne (Ohio) and Mason (Ohio).
6. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 2-1 A 12-11 victory over New Trier (Ill.) was Dublin Jerome's fourth out of its last five against out-of-state competition.
7. New Trier (Ill.), 2-3 Don't turn on the Trevians due to their sub-.500 record. They lost by a combined eight goals to regional threats Brother Rice (Mich.), Worthington Kilbourne (Ohio) and Dublin Jerome (Ohio).
8. MICDS (Mo.), 5-1 With a stingy defense, MICDS has burst out to a strong start, including a big 12-7 victory over fellow Show-Me State power St. Louis University Jesuit, who downed MICDS in the 2012 state final.
9. Hinsdale Central (Ill.), 1-0 The Red Devils started off with a solid win over a respectable Eureka (Mo.) team. They'll need the confidence heading into games against Lyons Township (Ill.) and York (Ill.), who are a combined 14-2.
10. York (Ill.), 6-0 The Dukes added a quality win to their ledger with a 9-3 victory over Glenbrook South (Ill.). They've gotten by on a gritty defense, allowing six goals or fewer in all six matches thus far, and a knack for the clutch with four one-goal wins
