April 14th, 2012 - GW falls 3 goals short to St. Mary's and remains #2 in the Chesapeake Conference at 6-3

St Mary's came out firing, landing 2 goals within the first 5 minutes of play. GW was slow to respond and the Seahawks were able to capitalize on the poor defensive communication of the Colonials to end  the first quarter in their favor, 4-0. Big stops by Sophomore goaltender Davis, Truslow held St.Mary's to only one goal in the 2nd though and it seemed that the Colonials finally found their rythm with shots by Senior midfielder  Nicholas Bryan , Senior attackman  Joe Gumaer , Junior midfielder  David Goscinak, and Junior midfielder  Ian Larson all finding the back of the net, ending the 2nd quarter down by one (4-5).

Unfortunately GW's momentum could not be maintained and St.Mary's confidently controlled the game throughout the 3rd and 4th quarters. Despite a valiant effortby the Colonials, it was clear that they were lacking the same disciplined offense that St. Mary's possessed and used to its advantage.

GW hopes to redeem itself in the NCLL Conference Championships in two weeks, where they will once again have to contend with St. Mary's.

GW (6-3) will take on American University at the Colonial's Mount Vernon field next Saturday April 21st.
