Mackie Avis joined the Colonials in the fall of 2014 to serve as the team's offensive coordinator. He brings deep knowledge and extensive playing experience on the offensive side of the ball. Coach Avis previously assisted at the School Without Walls, a DCPS magnet school located on the campus of George Washington University. He quickly guided the Penguins to a winning record after going winless the season before.

Prior to moving to the DC area, coach Avis was a four-year standout for Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. Mackie played in the very competitive North Coast Athletic Conference in the NCAA's DIII. At Kenyon, he led the team in points as a freshman before succumbing to a knee injury midway through his rookie campaign. Coach Avis rebounded his junior year by leading the Lords in goals for the 2012 season. The Lords' 2012 campaign is widely considered one of the program's best and concluded in an NCAA DIII Tournament berth. Mackie followed that up by leading the Lords again in goals his senior year. He was also named co-captain and received the Conference Player of the Week award on April 1st, 2013.

Before Kenyon, coach Avis was an All-State attackman at East Grand Rapids High School in West Michigan. His high school won three consecutive state championships from 2007-2009. Mackie capped his high school career with a two-goal effort in the Michigan DII State Final that ended in a thrilling 13-12 overtime victory.

Personally, coach Avis works at Meridian International Center, a non-profit dedicated to global understanding through the power of cultural exchanges. His younger brother, Gabe, is currently a sophomore goalie at Kenyon; and his older brother, Elliot, played lacrosse at Wittenberg University.
