Joe Opron returns for his fourth year serving the George Washington men's lacrosse program. After being the team's head coach for three seasons, and being the driving force behind the team's successful bid to join the MCLA in 2013, Opron will step off the sideline and into the Director of Lacrosse Operations role. He will provide overall leadership and administrative support to the program and serve as a mentor for the players and coaches.

Opron lead the Colonials offense, improving the team's goals per game output from 7.3 in 2013 to 10 in the following year. A large piece of that improvement was the coaching Opron gave to offensive leaders David Goscinak '14 and Charlie Frattini '15. Goscinak, a three-way midfielder (offense, defense, and face-offs) and two-year team captain, earned second team All MCLA honors by posting 25 goals, 11 assists, and 86 groundballs. Frattini, also a capain, lead the entire MCLA and the SELC in goals per game with 4.18, almost a whole goal in front of the next closest player.

Before coming to GW, Opron held various high school and club coaching posts where he coached several HS All Americans and future NCAA Division I student athletes.

A 2006 graduate of then MCLA Division I Oakland University, Opron helped lead the Golden Grizzlies past conference foe and perennial MCLA powerhouse the University of Michigan en route to two CCLA Conference Championships and two MCLA National Tournament appearances. Opron was three-time All CCLA, CCLA Offensive MVP, Team MVP, All-American, led the MCLA Division 1 in total goals his senior year, and was second in the country in total points.

Prior to attending Oakland, Opron attended NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit University on a lacrosse and academic scholarship. Opron was also a two-time All State attackman and a member of the varsity ice hockey team at Troy Athens High School in Troy, MI.

Opron recieved his law degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, and holds an advanced law degree (LLM) from Georgetown University. He is an attorney for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, an independent financial regulatory agency of the U.S. government. He currently is a forward for the Chicago Outlaws, a semi-professional box lacrosse team competing in the Continental Indoor Lacrosse League.
