Game Recaps: Nebraska, Iowa State, MarquetteMar. 2, 2012 Following an 8 hour charter bus drive, which landed the OU Men's Lacrosse team in Lincoln, NE at 1:30am, the OU Lacrosse team beat Nebraska 16 - 7 in a hard fought game which we started slow on offense and gained momentum throughout the game. Our team defense was outstanding and we did a much better job on rides and clears. Senior Sean Lefton and Freshman Sean McMenamin combined in the goal to keep Nebraska at bay. The OU offense was led by N. Ierullo 4-goals/1-assist, P. Kitsos 2/3, G. Purcell 2/1, J. Tighe 2 goals, J. Anderson 2 goals and M. Hartman, J. Shackelford, J. Stouffer, and M. Moore each had 1 goal.
In the second and back to back game, OU beat a much shorter rostered Iowa State 16 - 8. The game was much more sloppy due to the fatigue but the heart of OU persevered. S. McMenamin played well in the goal during the whole game. The OU team defense was again steller and led by M. Hawkins, D. Gibson, P. Dollahite, and J. Voskuil. The OU offense was led by G. Purcell, P. Kitsos, N. Ierullo, and G. Bolding all had 3 goals, H. Crutsing had 2, and M. Hartman and M. Moore each had a goal a piece.
OU took on a good Marquette University team on Sunday at 10 am which concluded 3 games in 19 hours. The Sooners fell short in a shoot out 20 - 14. G. Purcell and N. Ierullo lead scoring with 4-goals/3-assists and 5/2, respectively. OU Lacrosse ended the weekend 2-1 in out-of-conference play.
