TEAMS TRADE GOALS FIVE TIMES TO END GAME

Despite a hat trick from senior Antonio Jones and stellar defensive performances from Cedric Spence and Luke Wheeless, the Black and Red fell two goals shy of their first win against Eastern Alamance High School in team history, with the Eagles prevailing 8-6 at EAHS Wednesday night.

Eastern struck first at 8:10 of the first quarter with an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead.  Junior attacker Brock Fuller was able to tie the score at 1-1 with his own unassisted goal, but Eastern jumped back on top quickly, just 25 seconds later, for the 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

Eastern scored again just 47 seconds into the second quarter.  From there, Webb and Eastern Alamance would trade five goals each, as Webb got goals from Rufus Terry, then three straight from Jones (the second two both assisted on by Teddy Anderson), and Jacob Ragland.  Each time Webb scored, though, the Eagles were able to answer, stiffling the Warriors come back attempt.  The two teams combined for seven fourth quarter goals, which totalled the scoring the previous three quarters combined.  The Eagles were able to cap the scoring with 1:21 left in the game, though, and hold on for an 8-6 victory over Webb.

Jones scored three times for Webb, while Anderson added two assists and Fuller, Ragland, and Terry all scored once each.  Defensively, Spence and Wheeless caused three and four turnovers each, Christian Tilley did his part with 19 saves, and junior Cam Blanchard gave the Warriors 12 wins out of 18 draws from the X to help keep the Warriors in the game from start to finish.  Additionally, Tilley lead the team with 10 ground balls, a career high in that department.

Webb falls to 6-6 (2-4 Conf-4) on the year, while Eastern improves to 11-2 (8-1 Conf-6).  The Warriors host Northern Durham on Tuesday, April 23rd, while Eastern Alamance hosts Burlington Williams High School on Friday, April 19th.

Game Notes:  It was the fourth meeting all time between the two schools...the last two games have been decided by a combined three goals (8-7 EAHS win last year)...It was Jones' second hat trick of the season...It is the fourth time in the last five games Blanchard has won more than half of the face-offs for Webb...The Warriors have never defeated Eastern Alamance.
