Warriors Allow 10 in First Quarter

A 10 goal first quarter by the Red Wolves was all Cedar Ridge needed to put Webb away Monday night at the Red Wolves’ football stadium.  The Warriors fall to 2-11 overall, while the Red Wolves improve their overall record to 6-7 and take a victory on their senior night. The Warriors could not get much offense going on the night.  The only goal scored was by Gibson Gillespie with less than two minutes left, taking an assist from freshman long stick midfielder Rufus Terry, the first point in his young career.  Other than this, the Warriors couldn’t get much offense going on the night.  Defensively, Christian Tilley had 14 saves in cage through three quarters, before Larry Hester came in to relieve him and made 5 saves while allowing two goals.

“I was disappointed with our initial effort and play tonight.  For whatever reason, we didn’t come ready to play a very good Cedar Ridge team, and that is my responsibility.  We were not physical, we did not communicate, and we were caught ball watching.  A good team will make you pay, and that is what Cedar Ridge did, putting us down 10-0 after only one quarter.  To our players’ credit, however, they continued to play hard and compete, and kept the final score to 15-1.  Tonight was a good reminder of how far we still have go to be competitive against stronger programs.  Aside from our defensive struggles, we had trouble clearing the ball and still had trouble making and completing simple passes on offense.  I remain very proud of what our players have accomplished this year.  I did not, however, think tonight was our best effort.  I will need to do a better job of having our team prepared.  But give Cedar Ridge all the credit.  They took it to us and we couldn’t respond,” were Coach Farabee’s comments on the night.

The Warriors travel to Northern Durham High School tomorrow, while the Red Wolves wrap up the season on Thursday at Western Alamance High School.
