2008 SELC ChampionshipDec. 11, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The SELC is a collegiate lacrosse club league based in the southeastern United States, founded in 1987 to provide for organized, regional competition. Since its inception, SELC membership has expanded dramatically due to the explosive growth of high school and youth lacrosse in the south, and especially in Georgia. Just in the past few years the league has grown from 28 member colleges (2006) to 33 for the 2008 season, and more schools have petitioned for future admission. The tournament has expanded to twelve teams in two divisions. Last year’s Division I winner, The University of Georgia, is the pre-season favorite for the top tourney seed. Others expected to compete for the coveted six spots in Division I include previous winners Georgia Tech, Florida and Florida State. The Division II pre-season poll has both Emory and the Savannah College of Art and Design as early favorites. Quarterfinal action will start on Friday evening at both Northview and Chattahoochee. A youth tournament, clinics and skills competitions are planned for Saturday along with the semi-final games in both divisions. Sunday will feature the championship games in both divisions and the two winners will advance to the national tournament in May 2008.
