2011 Knoxville Summer Lacrosse League
The University of Tennessee Men's Lacrosse Club is active in assisting with organizing the Knoxville Summer Lacrosse League. For 2011 the league is continuing the Men's Division which is open to rising 12th graders with no age maximum. The league is also very excited about expanding to include a Futre Star's Division which will be for rising 6th-8th graders as well as a High School Division for Rising 9th-11th graders that have played lacrosse for at least 1 year previously. 2008 was the first year for the league and there were 60 interested players for the first summer. 2009 saw summer league grow to 84 participants and 2010 had 126 participants! We are hoping to have over 150 participants in all three divisions for 2011. FUTURE STARS & HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION MISSION: To maximize player development and game exposure for rising 6th-11th grade lacrosse players. The 2 month program will focus on individual skill development and team play concepts in a competitive game environment. While we desire a learning environment that is wholeheartedly effortful and committed, we do not want our schedule of training and competition to dominate the boys’ summers. Summer sessions will be 2 days a week for 8 weeks from June 2nd-July 28th on Wednesday evenings from 6pm-7:15pm for the Future Stars and 7:30-8:45 for the High School Division and on Sundays 5pm-6:15 for the Future Stars and 6:30-7:45 for the High School Division. Our players will achieve a maximum of development and competition in our 2 day a week format, yet have time to participate in other individual camp events, as well as spending time with family and friends. The Future Stars sessions will be focused half the time on individual skill session components and half the time on competitive situations to help the younger player develop. The High School sessions will be 25% focused on individual skill session work and 75% focused on team concept development through live competition and coaching direction. MEN'S LEAGUE DIVISION: Men's League will be divided into 3 teams for 2011. The season will be a round robin format where a team will play 2 games one week and 1 game the following week. Men's League will be Thursday and Sunday nights from 8:00-9:30pm. METHOD: Teams will be equally divided up by age, years played, and skill sets. The goal is to have a competitive league that will individually push each player to develop their skills. The team rosters will be set in the beginning and the hope is to keep them constant throughout the summer. Some roster changes may be necessary on a week by week basis due to participants unable to attend for other summer commitments. LOCATION & TIME: The league will play at Safety City Park located at 165 S. Concord Ave., Knoxville, TN. Warm-up will begin at 6pm with skill sessions & games beginning promptly at 6:15pm for the Future Stars and Warm-up begins at 7:30 with skill sessions and games beginning promptly at 7:45pm on Wednesday and Sunday evenings from June 2nd – July 31st. The cost also includes participant medical insurance of $25,000 with a $100 deductible, maintenance of Safety City field, as well as staff and referee costs.
