Alyssa Capuano and Her Teammates Held UCLA to 3 GoalsChico, CA - UCSB handcuffed UCLA for most of the game and won their Western Women's Lacrosse League semifinal against the 9th ranked Bruins 14-3. The Gauchos were up 9-0 at half-time and scored the first goal of the second half to lead UCLA 10-0. It was all UCSB and it was effort all over the field that put the Gauchos in position for the first half shutout. Sophomore Maggie Aker (Oakland, CA) scored all four of her goals in the first half and then stayed involved in the second half when she assisted sophomore Michelle Davis (San Diego, CA) to help get the score to 12-1 with about 15 minutes remaining in the game.

The Bruins first got on the board when a ground ball bunted by a UCSB defender back to freshman goalie Diane Clow (Poway, CA) was too hot to handle. The attempt at putting the ball into the crease to Clow squirted it past her stick and it rolled into the goal. That snaffu made it 10-1 in favor of UCSB with a little more than 27 minutes left in the game. The Gauchos weren't phased by the miscue, it was one of very few in the game, and less than a minute later senior Emily Ruby (Davis, CA) scored the first of her two goals on a solo effort at the end of the play after a UCSB draw control. Clow had 10 saves while only allowing 3 goals and finished at 76% to get the win.

Seven UCSB players scored goals and senior Kristen Dickey (Davis, CA) picked up a hat trick when she scored her third goal at 6:57 remaining in the game. That goal made it 14-2 for the Gauchos who outshot UCLA 35 to 20, won 11 draw controls, picked up 19 ground balls and caused 22 UCLA turnovers. The win improved UCSB to 17-0 on the year advances the Gauchos to the WWLL championship game at 1:00pm on Sunday in Chico. They will face #3 seed Cal Poly SLO. The Mustangs upset #2 seed Santa Clara 17-10 after the Broncos had won a recent regular season game 12-10 in San Luis Obispo on April 12th.
