Monora Seth and the Gaucho Defense Held Texas A&M to 2 GoalsSanta Barbara, CA - The Texas A&M team wins the Texas Women's Lacrosse League (TWLL) pretty much every year but they learned that it would be different if they were in the same league as the Gauchos. UCSB is in the Western Women's Lacrosse League (WWLL). While it's been a few years since they've won the league title they are on track to do it this year and showed the Aggies why in an 11-2 win at the Santa Barbara Shootout.

Nine different Gauchos scored points on the way to running the team's record up to 7-0. It set up a showdown with undefeated and 5th ranked Colorado later that afternoon in Shootout play. The half-time score was 6-0 and it was 9-0 before Texas A&M got a goal. Some UCSB players were starting to wonder about the possibility of a shutout but head coach Paul Ramsey was thinking about resting some key players for the next game. He'd already begun resting the starting midfield in the first half. Whenever he subbed someone in it was for midfielders
Maggie Aker (Oakland, CA), Kristyn Gherardi (San Mateo, CA) and Katie Moran (San Rafael, CA) even to the point of playing some players out of their regular positions. Francesca Perrone (Davis, CA) may think of herself more as an attacker but she did a nice job filling in at a midfield spot for UCSB in this game.

Explained UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey, "Maggie, Kristyn and Katie are our first line midfield right now and I wanted them as fresh as possible since I was in some ways more worried about Colorado then I was Colorado State."

"Before this weekend I knew Colorado was well coached," continued Ramsey. "I was concerned they would have scouted us during the Colorado State game on Friday night and game planned for our matchups."

"Basically I didn't want to get out-coached and put us at a disadvantage," added Ramsey. "I wanted the players to have every advantage possible since I hadn't had an opportunity to see Colorado play but they'd seen us play on Friday night."

Texas A&M, however, didn't let UCSB sit their starting midfielders as much as Ramsey might have liked. They were effective at transitioning and their active goalie had 13 saves. In the end though the Gauchos were superior with six of eleven goals assisted and three free position 8 meter goals buried after fouls.
