About UCSB Women's Lacrosse
UCSB Women's Lacrosse is a Sport Club competing under the Department of Recreation at University of California, Santa Barbara. UC Santa Barbara boasts two nationally ranked lacrosse teams. Both the men's and women's teams regularly finish in the Top 5 in the nation in their respective national association polls. The women compete regionally in the Western Women's Lacrosse League (WWLL) and nationally in the Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA) of U.S. Lacrosse, the National Governing Body for the sport. This association governs
regular season and national championship tournament play and enforces
the use of student-athlete eligibility rules similar to
those of the NCAA. UCSB is one of the lead programs in the WDIA and is also one of a select few programs nationwide to carry A & B teams based on interest and demand to participate in this sport at UCSB. Beginner Lessons and Fall Ball - Jul 29, 2010 Santa Barbara, CA - Beginner practices and try-outs for the 2010-11 UCSB women's lacrosse club will take place the first and second week of Fall Quarter. This is an open try-out process and while experience is certainly welcome it is not required. Beginners may play lacrosse at UCSB. The ability to commit to being on the team and incorporate this great team sport into your personal college experience is all that's required. Basketball, field hockey, soccer, softball and volleyball are among the different athletic backgrounds that help on a lacrosse field. Q & A Meeting September 24th:

UCSB Women's Lacrosse Adds Ten Players - Jul 27, 2010 Santa Barbara, CA - The UCSB women's lacrosse incoming class of ten new players includes two transfers and eight high school students. Larissa Durkin (Oakland, CA) and Jordan Venetis (Thousand Oaks, CA) are transferring from SBCC to UCSB. Venetis arrives at UCSB by way of SBCC and before that Virginia Wesleyan. Durkin plays in the midfield and Venetis plays attack. Eight recent high school graduates round out the recruiting class.
"This is a great group to add to our program," says UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey. "We picked up some speed in the midfield and added a few proven scorers." "We would have liked to get a goalie and a few defenders but players at both those positions are in the group enrolling at SBCC this fall to transfer to UCSB down the road." The Gauchos usually have a number of players walk-on during Fall Ball and Ramsey expects that will happen again this year. "We continue to aim for having six beginners join us every year to play on our B Team and experience this great game," added Ramsey. "It's part of our development efforts."
