Mission Statement
Texas State University Men's Lacrosse goal is to continue to become the current and future leaders of lacrosse in the LSA. As a team, our goal is no less than a MCLA National Championship. Off the field, the team is committed to the development of lacrosse in Texas, and creating excitement for lacrosse in Texas and the surrounding area. Our philosophy as a team is to foster positive growth and instill maturity in our student-athletes, creating players who are more than fine lacrosse players. We provide unique opportunities for students to excel not just as athletes, but as leaders as well. This can be found on and off the field. Student-athletes are not only encouraged to contribute by being captains or leading drills, but also by helping in fundraising, coordination of trips, and promotion of the team. All of these opportunities are available for players and are necessary for ensuring the continued success of our program. Each member of the team helps in a least one of these areas.

League Overview

The Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) is a national organization of non-NCAA, men's college lacrosse programs. The MCLA oversees game play and conducts national championships for over 200 teams in ten conferences throughout the United States and Canada. The MCLA provides a governing structure much like the NCAA, with eligibility rules, All-Americans and a national tournament to decide national champions in both Divisions I and II.

The MCLA exists to provide a quality college lacrosse experience where varsity NCAA lacrosse does not exist. On an individual scale, the MCLA provides rules and a structure that promotes "virtual varsity" lacrosse. While the MCLA provides a high level of athletic competition. On a national scale, the MCLA provides the infrastructure to support a level playing field through eligibility rules and enforcement and the use of NCAA rules of play. The MCLA, an organization governing a mere 70 teams in 1997, has seen a rapid growth in affiliation as national interest in the sport of lacrosse continues to increase. As of the 2011-2012 season, participation has increased to 213 teams throughout the US and parts of Canada.

Expectations
Playing lacrosse at Texas State is a time consuming, but exciting commitment. Players are expected to make every practice, game, and trip. We have limited time for team field practices, therefore members are expected to work outside of practice for continuous improvement.

Communication
Team communication is through the Texas State e-mail system.Players are asked to check their Texas State e-mail accounts daily for any updates or changes. This includes any cancellations or changes (i.e.: rainouts) to the team schedule.

Team Schedule
Practices are in the evening, and student athletes are asked to plan their class schedules accordingly. Practice during the fall semester begins after the first team meeting of the year, and runs from late August through the beginning of November. We practice 3-4 days a week, play in at least 1 tournament, and the alumni game. Fall practice dates/times are given at the beginning of the semester.

The spring season runs from mid January to the middle of May. Practice is 3-4 times a week and the majority of games are on weekends. Spring practice dates/times are given at the beginning of the semester. We travel at least once for out of conference play during the semester, and we travel for the national tournament.

Eligibility
Players must be enrolled as a full time student at Texas State and taking at least 12 credit hours during the spring semester. Players have 4 years of eligibility to play collegiate lacrosse. Representing another school against any other competition counts as year of eligibility. It is the player's responsibility to understand and have 12 hours. Any questions or concerns of eligibility may be addressed to Coach.

Financing the Team
Basic costs are covered through players' annual dues. Rookie dues include a team helmet, gloves, and game shorts. Game jerseys are provided and owned by the team. Veteran's dues assist in running the club. Dues are only one part of financing the team. Team members are expected to fully participate in all fundraising activities. Dues should not hold any player back from being a part of the team. Please talk with Coach or the team president about your situation.
