K-2 Boys/Girls Lacrosse 2021 Season Starts Soon!

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Mar. 9, 2021

We are very excited about the upcoming K-2 Boys/Girls Spring Lake Lacrosse Season and can't wait to get started!

Our registration numbers look great and we plan to have 2-3 coed teams.  All of the K-2 athletes will practice learning together two nights a week for an hour starting after spring break.   At the end of the season, we will have a mini tournament between the teams.

At this age, only a stick is required. There is no need to spend a lot of money on their stick. However, we do not recommend the plastic play ones.   Also, there is a difference between women’s and men’s. Please purchase a stick that relates to your child's gender.

Most sporting goods stores have great starter kits.  We have included a few links below for good stick ideas to purchase.  You can also get an indoor lax ball (Swax Ball) or use a tennis ball for practicing at home.  Using an outdoor wall is a great way to learn how to catch and pass alone (our Laker Lacrosse Wall is located on the back recess field of the Intermediate/Middle School).

For BOYS, you may also want to get gloves. Gloves are an essential part of boys’ mandatory equipment as they get older. However, gloves are not required at this age.  Helmets are also not required for K-2 Boys, softer balls will be used.

For GIRLS, you may want to purchase goggles, (sometimes they come in the starter kit).  Goggles are an essential part of girls’ mandatory equipment as they get older. However, goggles are not required at this age. If you want your athlete to get acclimated with the future required equipment, then it is a good time to start.

At this point we do not know which nights we will practice. Our fields are still covered in ice and snow and we will need to evaluate which fields will be open. We are also finalizing coaching and availability.  We ask that you be patient please. We will communicate the start date and practice times as soon as possible.

Finally,  If you love sports, have energy, maybe some knowledge of LAX/Hockey (understanding of LAX not required) but want to learn… PLEASE volunteer! We could use extra help across the entire Spring Lake LAX program.   It is a great experience to get involved and help shape the LAX program as your child participates and eventually plays at the varsity level, maybe even college level. We have a few kids each year who go play LAX in college. Please let us know if you're interested in helping.

Please let us know if you have any questions and don’t forget to check out our Spring Lake Lacrosse Facebook page.
