Walk with the Wildcats to Defeat ALS - Aug 2, 2011

ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

With ALS, nerve cells (neurons) waste away or die, and can no longer send messages to muscles. This eventually leads to muscle weakening, twitching, and an inability to move the arms, legs, and body. The condition slowly gets worse. When the muscles in the chest area stop working, it becomes hard or impossible to breathe on one's own. Over time, people with ALS progressively lose the ability to function and care for themselves. Death often occurs within 3 - 5 years of diagnosis. About 25% of patients survive for more than 5 years after diagnosis.

An extended family member of the Westerville South Wildcats Boys Lacrosse Team has been diagnosed with ALS. While no cure is currently available for people diagnosed with ALS, with the help of all of you, we can raise money to assist help search for one.

Please join the Wildcat team, friends, and family by participating in the 2011 Walk to Defeat ALS being held on September 25th at the Fred Beekman fields in Upper Arlington. You can enter to walk the 5k, raise money from sponsors to walk, or simply donate to another walker (attached form is for team captain Ann Gall).

Westerville Caring & Sharing School Supply Drive - Aug 1, 2011

Westerville South Boys Lacrosse club is donating 20 bookbags to Westerville Caring & Sharing for their annual School Supply Drive.

From Mary of Westerville Caring and Sharing:

Hi Apple,

Thank you so much for your donation! Your team is always so supportive of us! We are very grateful for everything you do for us and truly can not tell you how much it means to us. I wish every adult could see your guys at work and see not just how hard they work, but also how willing and happy they are while they are doing it! Truly impressive. Please forward our thoughts to them.

We would be happy to pick the book bags up or you can drop them off at Mark Twain elementary next week. We will be there Monday the 1st, Wednesday the 3rd and Friday the 5th from 5 - 7pm. Bookbags are our most needed items and the one thing we never have enough of. They are such a huge help to our parents. Thank you again for everything. I'll talk to you soon. Just let me know if you would like me to pick them up.

Mary
