Seawolves beat UC-Davis, Look forward to playoffsApr. 29, 2012 Sonoma jumped out a quick two-goal lead after juniors Casimir Morawski and Ryan Heidrich scored early. Once Davis got the ball on offense they ran a very slow and methodical offense, which really logged the possession time. Senior Goalie Michael Clothier only had to make one save and the Seawolves would head into the second quarter holding the two-goal lead. Heidrich would add his second goal of the day to start the second quarter to push the lead to three for the Seawolves. UC-Davis would score on a man up goal shortly after to pull the game within two goals. Freshman Nic Scaramella picked up a groundball and charged downfield and found Junior Matty Gillan who curled around the crease and found the net for the goal. However, Davis would once again answer back with a goal of their own to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Seawolves. Senior Zach Blackman would find Heidrich for the Seawolf goal with two minutes remaining in the half. Junior Kyle Riddle would add another goal before halftime to make the game 6-2 in favor of the Seawolves. Clothier began the second half with numerous big saves and the Sonoma defense was able to clear the ball and get it to Blackman who would beat his man and score to make it 7-2. UC-Davis would answer with a two-goal run of their own to keep them within striking distance. After a groundball scrum Riddle would find Heidrich who finished the goal to make it 8-4. Scaramella would score off a rebound and Sonoma found themselves leading 9-4. UC-Davis would add two late goals and Sonoma would hold on for the 9-6 victory. The win ensures Sonoma the third seed heading into next weeks WCLL Playoffs. Sonoma would look to get some revenge, as they will take on second seeded Cal-Berkley who beat Sonoma just two weeks ago. Faceoff for the semifinal game is at 2:30pm at Novato High School.
