Support Guides Seawolves in Texas

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Mar. 29, 2012

Sonoma State is fairing well midway through the spring break trip, earning two convincing wins agsint Texas A&M and Texas State, but it might be the support off the field that’s helping propel the Seawolves during the road journey.

Before we even got to Texas, alumnus--and now Austin resident --Chris Esposito provided scouts of all three foes.  Coach Carl said “Getting scouts from someone who spent years in the program is invaluable.  He knows what we look for...”.

Then, from the moment they first arrived in The Lone Star State, the Seawolves have been swarmed with tremendous hospitality from family, fans and alumni.

“This is my fifth year on the team and I am completely blown away by the ongoing support we’ve been receiving.  From the moment we first arrived with pizzas waiting for us at the hotel, to the team BBQ in the park, it’s just great to know that there’s a network of support out there and it reminds us that were not just playing for ourselves but for the entire Noma family,” said senior defensemen David Massey.

Parents who were able to make the trip out to Texas with the team are working hard to make sure all the coaches need t worry about is coaching, and the kids just need to play, despite being thousands of miles away from California. Parents have funded team breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and provided their love and support for the program from the stands, emulating a home field advantage even on opposing teams’ fields.

“It’s almost unreal how supportive the families are of the program,” said junior midfielder Brian Ponzi. “To make the trip all the way to Texas and provide meals and cheer for us in the stands, it really means a lot to us. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Sonoma State Lacrosse would like to thank all the parents and family for their gracious support.  Even though many parents couldn’t make the trip their generosity has contributed to the effort.  The team looks forward to seeing the crowd again Thursday night as the team prepares to take on #7 Texas in Austin with a 7 p.m. face off time. Live updates are available via the team’s official Twitter handle @NomaLax.  Unfortunately the “Longhorn network” has lawyered up and is refusing to allow us to stream.  Seriously, a lawyer for U of Texas called and officially notified us we couldn’t stream a club lacrosse game.
