Rohnert Park, CA - Unforced turnovers, dropped passes and errant throws killed the Seawolves as Sonoma State Lacrosse came out flat in their home opener Sunday afternoon, falling to the University of Oregon 9-3 at Sonoma State’s intramural fields.

“This was not a typical game for us,” said head coach Doug Carl. “You aren’t used to seeing a Sonoma State team come out and make mistakes like that.”

It was a tale of two halves for the Seawolves, as SSU kept it within one goal throughout the first. Oregon jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage but SSU answered back with a goal by Ryan Heidrich.

Kyle Riddle gave the Seawolves a 2-1 advantage finishing a man-up opportunity after Heidrich’s score, but Oregon was relentless, adding another goal to even it at 2-2. The back and forth scoring continued, with sophomore Tom Lynch putting in a rebound off the pipes to give Big Blue a 3-2 edge going into the second quarter.

Sonoma hit a dry spell in the second quarter, unable to find the back of the net largely due to poor passing and unforced errors. Oregon netted two more scores to make it 4-3 at halftime.

It was all Ducks from there, with the Seawolves unable to gain any momentum against a stalwart Oregon defense. The Ducks doubled their goal tally in the 3rd quarter and dominated the Seawolves in front of a Noma Nation crowd of almost roughly 300 fans, parents and alumni.

The Seawolves will look to bounce back against the University of Santa Clara at Saratoga High School on Saturday, March 3rd with a one o’clock faceoff time. Fans at home may follow via LaxxTV or the team’s official Twitter handle, @NomaLax
