Broncos win second contest this season over a pre-season ranked squad when they rallied back from a 5-1 deficit for a 10-9 OT win against their WCLL rivals, the Lions from Loyola Marymount.

After an end to end start of the contest with both offenses feeling their respective defenses out, the home team notched the games first score with only 3 minutes remaining in the first half.  Both goalies kept their squads in the contest making 3 first period saves each.  LMU ended the first frame with a 2-0 lead.

Quarter two opened much the same way as the first, with both defenses leading and the goalies notching save after save until SCU opened their scoring on an unassisted goal by freshman Scott Wheaton.  LMU answered 27 seconds later for their first of 3 more in the second, which ended 5-1 in the favor of the Lions.

The young, upstart Broncos started their climb back with freshman face-off specialist Scott Fronsdahl's dominance at the "X".  Freshman AJ von Massenhausen scored his first goal of the season and his first of three on the day to get SCU back on the board.  LMU answered right back to less than a minute later to take a 6-2 lead.  SCU put 2 more scores by the freshman goalie for LMU to cut the deficit to 2 before LMU extended the lead once again.  The Broncos caught fire and rattled off 3 goals in just over a minute tie the game for the first time since the opening face-off.

LMU came out hot in the fourth, scoring two goals to take a 9-7 lead with 6:32 left in the game.  Freshman Robbie Inch cut the lead to 1 converting a feed from Scott Wheaton on the man up with 2:23 left in the game. After trading offensive possessions, SCU tied the game for the final time with 21 seconds on the clock when Brett Oliveira put one by the Lion goalie, sending the game into OT.

Freshman Scott Fronsdahl won his thirteenth face off of the game in the 4 minute extra frame and controlled possession in the Bronco offensive end.  Coach Podesta refrained from calling a timeout to let the offense get settled when Von Massenhausen netted the game winner with 3:09 left in the OT period.

With the win, the Broncos move to 3-1 on the season.  They hit the field again next weekend to begin WCLL conference play against the Chico State Wildcats in Chico, CA at 12 noon.
