BRONCOS DROP CLOSE ONE TO #11-UCSBFeb. 19, 2011 The 2011 Broncos went on the road this weekend and the first stop was to face the #11 ranked, UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. Due to weather issues, the game was moved further south to Agoura HS to use the artificial turf field. UCSB opened up the scoring at the 12:25 mark of the first when then converted off a broken clear and subsequent fast break. Santa Clara quickly tied the score on freshman Inch, Robbie man up goal from a feed by freshman Wheaton, Scott . UC SB fired right back on Jaime Bridgman's unassisted goal to end the quarter up 2-1. The Gauchos kept up the scoring to take a 3-1 lead shortly into quarter 2. SCU knotted the score at 3-3 on unassisted goals a minute apart by Inch and Wheaton. UCSB took the lead into halftime on another goal shortly afterward. The Broncos opened the third quarter with a tally by sophomore Oliveira, Brett in transition off a feed from junior defensive-midfielder Lees, Bradford . UCSB took the lead again 2 minutes later only to be equaled by Santa Clara one more time when Wheaton converted a feed from Oliveira. UCSB scored the game winner at the end of the frame to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth which wouldn't be challenged again that night despite the 19 save registered by junior net minder, Kantola, Luke . Santa Clara completes the road trip tomorrow afternoon against WCC rival, Loyola Marymount at 3 PM at Mira Costs High School in Manhattan Beach.
