BRONCOS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN
The Santa Clara Men's Lacrosse team opened up the 2011 campaign with a 5-3 victory at UC Santa Cruz today.
On a beautiful afternoon, junior midfielder O'Brien, Joseph opened up the SCU scoring on a feed from freshman attackman, Wheaton, Scott . Freshman midfielder scored the first goal of his Bronco lacrosse career 3 minutes later to end the scoring for the quarter at 2-0 SCU. Santa Cruz bounced back in the second scoring two goals to know the score. Senior long stick midfielder, Jenkins, Spencer opened the scoring in the third on an assist from Wheaton. Sophomore attackman, Fitzsimons, Kevin added his first goal of the contest to make it 4-2 at the end of three. The lone score of the fourth quarter was tallied by Fitzsimons off a feed from fellow soph. attackman Oliveira, Brett . Recording the first win of the season was Junior net-minder Kantola, Luke , (11 saves, 16 shots on goal, 68.7%) while junior defender, Baker, Matthew recorded 5 ground balls and 6 caused turnovers. The Broncos continue the season with their 2011 home opener tomorrow with a 1 PM contest against the Ducks from the University of Oregon.
