The San Jose Stealth’s Paul Rabil was spotted at Santa Clara University on January 8th working out with the Men’s Club Lacrosse team.
Head coach Gary Podesta had set up this clinic with Rabil in hopes of it getting his team serious about the upcoming season.
“We asked what it takes to on an individual basis for a college program to go to the next level and who better at that than Paul with all that he has accomplished over the last four years at John Hopkins,” Podesta said.
This is Rabil’s first season in the indoor league. He was with the Boston Cannons of the Major Lacrosse League for the 2008 season after being first overall in the Collegiate Draft. He was acquired by the Stealth in the first round (second overall) in the 2008 NLL entry draft.
“First of all the boys were a little impressed to have someone of his stature out to our practice. A lot of the rookies were just in aw to see him there,” Podesta said.
Rabil was a midfielder at Johns Hopkins University and during his time there he earned First Team STX/USILA All-America honors all four years, and had 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points in 10 NCAA tournament games. Overall he scored 75 goals and 53 assists for 128 points in his career.
“The guys were definitely fired up about the season. They were all geared up for practice during the BCS National Championship Game!! With that kind of effort, you’re headed in the right direction,” Rabil said.
Rabil spent some time talking with the Broncos and then giving the team a shooting demonstration. Shooting has been a focus of the Santa Clara team since they came back to campus.
