BRONCOS EVEN RECORD AT 2-2Feb. 23, 2008 Due to a soggy (to be generous) field at home, this game was moved to the artificial surface at Bellarmine College Prep where Santa Clara defeated Chico State 10-6 to even their record at 2-2. In a constant rainfall, the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead on senior defensemen Matt Ward's extra man tally. SCU tied the game but allowed Chico to go ahead at the end of the first quarter 2-1. Chico used a balanced offense and extended their lead in the second before the Broncos tallied two to tie the game. Chico took the lead into halftime on senior Tom Hower's fast break goal late in the second. In the second half, Santa Clara came out firing on all cylinders. With a tightened defense led by junior goalie Phil Donnici (San Francisco, CA) 17 saves, 6 goals allowed, and sophomore defensemen Caspian Alderman (Springfield, OR) and Cory Scott (Rancho Sante Fe, CA) the Broncos scored 6 unanswered goals to take control of the game at 10-4 with under two minutes to play. to go ahead at the end of the first quarter 2-1. Offensive leaders for Santa Clara were sophomore attackman Charlie Ellis (Ross, CA) three goals, 2 assists and senior midfielder Matthew Paver (San Mateo, CA) one goal, two assists. The Broncos (2-2) move on to play WCLL Central division rival California (3-2) under the Bellomy field lights this Friday night at 7:00 PM and the Pacific Northwest and WCC rival Gonzaga Bulldogs (1-2) on Sunday morning at 11:30 AM.
