BRONCOS DROP HOME OPENER

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Feb. 16, 2008

On a sunny Saturday in Santa Clara, before a Parent's Weekend crowd of over 350, Santa Clara dropped their home opener to the # 17 Texas A & M Aggies, 17-11.  A & M jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Broncos righted the ship scoring 4 unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead with under 3 minutes to go in the quarter.   A & M came back to tie the game at the end of the first stanza.  The Aggies turned on their scoring machine and outscored the Broncos in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, 11-3 to take a 15-7 lead into the last quarter.  The Broncos outscored A & M 4-2 in the 4th to make the score respectable.  A & M improved to 5-0 with the win and Santa Clara fell to 0-2.  Leading the scoring for SCU was sophomore attackman Charlie Ellis (Ross, CA) with 2 goals and three assists and junior attackman Mark Swoboda (Pleasanton, CA) with four goals.

I would like to apologize to the parents from both Texas A & M and Santa Clara for the rowdy and downright rude behavior of some of our students who were in stands.  We have already taken steps to make sure that type of thing does not happen again.
