SANTA CLARA DROPS SEASON OPENERFeb. 12, 2008
On a beautiful sunny day, the Santa Clara Broncos opened their 2008 season with a tough 10-6 loss to the Sonoma State Seawolves at Foothill HS in Pleasanton, CA. Sonoma exploited an overly aggressive Bronco defense in the first half while their goalie, Warren Pringle (11 saves, 6 goals allowed) made 6 early saves to hold the SCU offense to two first half goals. The Broncos tightened up the defense in the second half and the shooting improved however SCU couldn't get closer than a 3 goal differential. Leading the scoring for Broncos were Junior Mark Swoboda (Pleasanton, CA) with 4 goals and Sophomore Charlie Ellis (Ross, CA) with 3 assists.
The Broncos next games are during Parent's Weekend festivities when SCU takes on # 17 Texas A & M (3-0) on Saturday 2-16-08 at 2 PM and WCLL Central Division rival St. Mary's College on Sunday, 2-17-08. Both games begin at 2:00 PM on Bellomy Field.
