Pittsburgh, PA—The Pitt Panthers (11-1-1, 4-1) capped off their regular season with a decisive 21-2 victory over the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (2-7, 0-4) on Wednesday, April 18th, at Gesling Stadium. All players on Pitt’s active roster saw time in the game, and fourteen Panthers recorded points in the contest.

“It’s always nice to come away with a win like this, but we have to stay focused for the postseason now,” remarked Face-off specialist Phil Spagnola, who went 8 for 10 from the midfield X.

It was a record setting day for Tyler Novotny, who set the Pitt All-Time record for most points in a season and most goals in a season. Earlier this season the attackman tied the record for goals in a game with seven against Michigan State, then repeated the feat against West Virginia. However, it wasnt just Novotny that broke records this season. Alex Powell recorded 9 points in a game (vs. Central Michigan), and then freshman Matt Wolfe tied this record later in the season against MSU. In scoring the 9 against Michigan State, Wolfe also tied the record for assists in a game (5). Defenseman Max Carlson scooped 74 ground balls to shatter the previous record of 56, held by Assistant Coach Andrew Stypula. Nick Ruff still holds the career record with 139 GB's.

Pitt will travel to Saline, Michigan, on May 4th to compete for the CCLA title. To raise additional money for travel to Saline, and possibly Greenville for the National Tournament, The Pitt Panthers will host a car wash on Saturday, April 28. Stay tuned for details.

Hail to Pitt!
