For the Sooner team, this past weekend offered a mix of emotions on the field as they faced Rice and Sam Houston State in Houston and Huntsville, TX, respectively.

The action started against Rice on Saturday afternoon. Taking a cue from their previous game against Hendrix, the Sooners limited the Owls’ offensive opportunities by playing solid defense and maintaining possession on offense, finishing a low-scoring half with a 4-1 lead.

Unlike the game the previous weekend, the Sooners exploded out of the gate in the third quarter, scoring fast goals in bunches in every way possible; crisp offensive execution, man-up situations, and fast breaks allowed for Oklahoma to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Entering the fourth quarter with victory in hand, the team put the game into cruise control, giving many younger players valuable playing time and field experience.

The Sooners enjoyed their first win of the season, triumphing over the Owls by the score of 14-4, and sophomore Garrett Purcell led all scorers by finishing with four goals and two assists.
