POST & COURIER - Feature Article on Lacrosse

December 11, 2009

"Lacrosse is the new soccer"

Amazingly, it took this long. Lacrosse, like the Lowcountry itself, has roots extending deep into Native American culture and vines carefully clipped with French and British influence.

The sport has ties to football (helmets and mouth guards), baseball (ball and stick), basketball (behind the back passing), soccer (lots of running and two goals) and hockey (illegal body checks and spearing penalties).

"Football people like that you can hit other players," said veteran youth coach Jeff Mayer of the Mount Pleasant Lacrosse Club. "Soccer people like the open field."

Games are Starting - Mar 2, 2010

The season is here and teams have been practicing for several weeks.  It is time to start playing games.  Please review the schedules.  Links to each age group is listed on the left hand column of the home page.  Please find your team and check them out.

We wish everyone good luck and a fun season.

Please remember, Mt Pleasant Lacrosse T-shirts are for sale now.  All proceeds will go back to Mt Pleasant Lacrosse Club which will go back to lacrosse in Mt Pleasant.  Some are on sale at Lowcountry Lacrosse and a parent or two might have some at the coming games so please support lacrosse in Mt Pleasant and buy a T-shirt.

Please thank your volunteer coach today.

More to follow in the coming days and weeks!
