End of Fall-Ball

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Dec. 5, 2015

As the fall-ball ends and finals week rolls around, it’s hard to believe how quickly this semester flew by. We are so excited to have our team finalized for this year, and to have such a great turnout of new players! We welcome back all the returning Lady Laxcats, as well as those who are new to the team. Our Laxcat family is happy to have Hannah Block, Kylie Filipek, Jephanie Chen, Madison Wilson, Tori Schiff, Alex Novoa, Kenna Breton, Abbey Spivey, Annie Kaiser, and Celine Sanchez joining our 2015-16 team! We are lucky to have our Head Coach Michael Kapp, and Assistant Coach Pierce Philp back this year as well.

As you may know, our annual end of fall-ball scrimmage took place against ASU in Tempe last Friday night (12/4). With such a young team and no full field practice under our belt, we did not know what to expect. As we took the field for the first time as a team, it was inevitable that many of the players, old and new, were nervous. With a final score of 10-7, we were proud to beat ASU as a team – with points spread across the board. With only 4 subs, every player got in the game and played a very important role.  The new players all stepped up and played with fire and intensity.

Congratulations to Captain Ashley O’Sullivan for playing in her first game back after an ACL tear…4 goals, she’s back and ready to rumble! Shoutout to Jephanie Chen for playing an awesome first game as goalie, and also to junior goalie Erin Cantoni for being loud and demanding in the goal. Freshman Tori Schiff did a great job taking the draws for us, with freshmen Abbey Spivey and Annie Kaiser working hard for possession around the circle.

Captain Lauren Oslar only allowed two goals in the whole first half, working with a forceful defense led by captain Mackenzie Mantione, junior Annie Frey, and freshman Kenna Breton. Tori Handell, Taylor Rosenblatt, and Madison Wilson also played vital roles in the Laxcats’ defense whenWith only one midfield sub, Kylie Filipek and Alex Novoa played flexibly throughout the midfield depending on where help was needed. Despite getting jumped with double teams, Captain Bea Bramhall managed to score and create offense for her teammates. Kali Miller played a tremendous game using her speed and agility to move the ball through the midfield.

If you didn’t get the gist, everyone had an amazing first game!! The 2015-16 Lady Laxcats’ first scrimmage as a team was so fun to watch, just imagine what the season holds! Make sure to check out our schedule to see when you can catch a game! The schedule is posted, and will be updated continuously as the game times are confirmed. If you aren’t able to make it to the games, be sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter to receive updates about each game and the overall season!

This year, we want to focus on our fan support and involvement with the community.  We have many new ideas for this year’s fundraising efforts, team events, philanthropy events, and ways to get our fans more connected with each other and us. As always, we welcome all suggestions! If you have any questions regarding the website feel free to contact Shannon Magpiong at smagpiong@email.arizona.edu.
