Lacrosse Approved as a Middle School Sport; Northern Granville, Mary Potter to have TeamJun. 5, 2013 TWO ARE THE FIRST MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN GRANVILLE COUNTY TO FIELD TEAMS In what is a necessary step for any successful high school program, Granville County Schools have approved the addition of lacrosse to Northern Granville and Mary Potter Middle Schools, beginning in the 2014 spring season. The sport, which JF Webb has had for four years now, has been exploding across the country and now Granville County is getting a taste of it. "This is a huge and exciting step in the right direction not only for the program here, but for the nature of the sport in general," Head Coach David Farabee, who just completed his fourth season at the helm of the JF Webb program, said. "For any high school team to be successful, a successful feeder program at the youth level is necessary. We have seen huge strides in just four years as a team, but for us to take our game to the next level, we must have our guys playing at younger ages. This will, hopefully, also show other schools in the county and neighboring counties that lacrosse is a viable addition to their athletic departments, and that there would be immediate competition and scheduling chances in their own back yards." Rumors over the last few years of lacrosse being started in Vance County public schools have persisted, but nothing has come of it. Kerr Vance Academy fields a team, as does Vance Charter School, but no middle schools in Granville County have yet to field a team until now. Webb completed its fourth season as a team this spring, finishing 8-8 and tied for third in their conference. The Warriors graduate over a dozen seniors, but several sophomores and juniors look to fill those rolls as the 2014 season comes along. Anyone interested in coaching at Northern Granville or Mary Potter can contact Coach Farabee via email, or by requesting information from the schools' respective athletic directors.
