Warriors Down Cary Christian 3-2Apr. 25, 2013 WIN IS FIRST EVER FOR WARRIORS OVER KNIGHTS The Warriors needed a win to guarentee their first 0.500 record in school history, and with the help of three first half goals and another stellar defensive performance, the Warriors got one over visiting Cary Christian School, 3-2, at Warrior Field Wednesday night. Jacob Ragland got the scoring started in the first quarter, and Rufus Terry added his 20th goal of the year to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. In the second quarter, junior Brock Fuller found the back of the net with help from Teddy Anderson for a 3-0 lead. This would hold steady as both teams entered halftime. In the second half, Cary Christian's defense would stiffle the Warriors offense, holding Webb to no more goals in the game. During this time, the Knights managed to score two of their own, one in the third, then in the fourth quarter to make it 3-2 Webb with just over three minutes left. From there, the long pole foursome of seniors Cedric Spence, Justin Wilbanks, junior Zach Watkins, and sophomore Luke Wheeless shut down the Knights, as the four caused five turnovers between them (with Watkins getting two). Christian Tilley made several key stops, and the Warriors celebrated their 8th win of the year as time ticked away. Four different Warriors scored one point each, while Terry led all players with 8 ground balls. Tilley made 16 saves in cage, and Cam Blanchard put in another strong face-off performance, winning five of 9 on the night. The Warriors improve to 8-6 (3-4 Conf-4) on the year, while Cary drops to 7-9. The Warriors next play Friday, when they host Cedar Ridge for Senior Night, while Cary plays host to Forsyth Country Day on the same day. Game Notes: It was the first win ever for Webb against Cary Christian School...With the win, the Warriors are 3-1 now all time against private schools (only loss: 8-7 last year at CCS)...It was the seventh game this year where the defense allowed three goals or less, and the second straight allowing two goals...It was the first game this season decided by one goal, a stat the Warriors found themselves with a 1-3 record out of last year...Anderson's assist was his team-leading and school record setting 14th of the year...Tonight's win was Head Coach David Farabee's 20th of his career.
