SEVEN GOALS MOST SCORED AGAINST RIVERSIDE IN WEBB HISTORY

In the second meeting of the season between JF Webb and Riverside, the Pirates used a 9 goal first half to take a 13-7 victory over the Warriors at Lennie Wrenn Stadium in Durham Tuesday night.  The win improves the Pirates to 8-4 on the year (4-1 Conf-4), while Webb drops to 6-5 (2-4 Conf-4).

Riverside started the scoring just 35 seconds into the game for the early lead.  Two minutes later, senior midfielder Jacob Ragland tied the score at 1-1 with an unassisted dodge to the cage for Webb.  The Pirates rattled off three goals to end the quarter with Riverside leading 4-1, before the Pirates then opened the second quarter scoring with an early man-up goal at 11:37.  Riverside scored again to make it 6-1 before Antonio Jones took Teddy Anderson's feed and buried it in the net to end the Pirate scoring run.  Riverside and Webb then traded goals, with Riverside scoring almost three minutes later to make it 7-2, only to have senior defender Cedric Spence answer just under two minutes with a full-field sprint that resulted in his first career goal, making it 7-3 Riverside with 3:38 to go in the half.  Before the horn for halftime sounded, the Pirates added two more to take a comfortable 9-3 lead into the locker room.

The Warriors fought to even things out in the second half, ultimately tying the Pirates in scoring at four goals each.  It took nearly six minutes to open the scoring, as Riverside netted the first of the second half at 6:39 in the quarter.  At 4:10, this time Anderson took a feed from Jones for the Warriors goal, before freshman Ben Branch would take a feed from Rufus Terry and give the Warriors their second of the quarter, ending the third quarter with Webb down 10-5 to the Pirates.

Riverside would dominate the fourth quarter, as it did the first half, with three goals to Webb's two.  Riverside scored twice before Terry would take an unassisted dodge to make it 12-6 Pirates.  With 1:41 to go, Riverside scored their 13th and final goal, before junior Brock Fuller managed to sneak one in, giving Webb it's seventh of the ball game.

Jones led all scorers with three points, while Terry and Anderson each scored two points and Branch, Fuller, Ragland, and Spence scored once each.  Sophomore LSM Luke Wheeless picked up seven ground balls, and both Spence and Terry caused three turnovers.  At the face-off X, Cam Blanchard went 13 for 23, and senior Christian Tilley made 12 saves in 34 minutes of action.  Senior Reggie Campos made five saves in relief in the cage as well.

The Warriors travel to Eastern Alamance High School tomorrow for a showdown with the Eagles, while Riverside plays host to Western Guilford High School out of the Triad.

Game Notes:  Seven goals scored is the most against Riverside by Webb in school history...Spence's goal is only the second in school history by a defender, and the first since 2011...With his points tonight, Terry pushes his point scoring streak to 12 games...Tonight's loss drops Webb to 0-8 all time against the Pirates.
