WARRIORS SCORE DOUBLE DIGIT GOALS FOR THIRD TIME THIS YEAR

Highlights

Coming off of their first shut out in school history but a somewhat lackluster offensive performance, it was the offense's turn to shine last night at Armstrong-Hill Stadium in North Durham, as the Warriors used two hat tricks from seniors Jacob Ragland and Rufus Terry to cruise to a 10-3 Conference 4 win.

The Warriors got on the board first around half-way into the first quarter.  Senior attacker Antonio Jones took a feed from Terry behind, utilized a somewhat now patented spin move, freed himself and found the back of the cage for the early 1-0 lead.  The first quarter would end with that score, as the defenses for both teams made several stops, with senior Reggie Campos, making his second consecutive start, making three saves to keep the Knights off the scoreboard.

The second quarter saw the Black and Red offense wake up, with four goals being dumped on the Knights for the 5-0 halftime lead.  After a forced turnover at midfield by Luke Wheeless, it was Terry who got the ball rolling, taking a feed from Ragland and rifling home a shot for the 2-0 lead.  Scoring the third and fourth goals of the game were freshman Ben Branch, receiving assists from senior Teddy Anderson and Terry, before Ragland would use a dodge from the top of the box to round off the scoring for the half.  The defense held the Knights scoreless again, with Campos making another three saves to keep the shut out going, and pushing his shut out streak to 72 minutes (dating back to last game's shut out).

In the third quarter, Ragland scored his second of the game off a feed from Terry before Terry would beat several defenders for his second as well.  The Knights, though, finally broke through the Warriors defense and ended Campos' shut-out streak at approximately 78 minutes, to make the score 7-1 Webb.  Before the quarter ended, Webb would push its lead to 8-1 with a man-up goal from Ragland off an assist from Terry, Ragland's third of the game and Terry's third assist of the game.

The fourth quarter was an even affair, with the Knights scoring two quick goals sandwiched between a goal from Anderson, his sixth of the year, and Terry, his third of the game, before the final whistle would blow with the scoreboard showing Webb 10, Northern Durham 3.

"I thought this was a great way to finish the week leading into our spring break," Coach Farabee said after the game.  "We were missing several starters for the second game in a row, so to get the contributions we did from the rest of the team in their absence was huge.  I thought we played tough and with confidence on both sides of the ball, and, obviously by winning every game this week, thought this was the best outcome we could have asked for."

Terry led all scorers with six points (3G 3A), with Ragland adding four points (3G 1A).  Branch added two goals, with Anderson and Jones adding one goal each.  Defensively, junior Zach Watkins led the team with six ground balls, while senior Cedric Spence led the team with five caused turnovers.  Campos finished with 11 saves and his third win of the year.

One of the key stats for Webb was at the face-off mark.  Last year, Webb and Northern traded dominating performances in the face-off game, with Webb losing the first battle at home 3-12, but winning the second at Northern 7-9.  Missing their key cog for that turn around, the Warriors were still able to win the face-off battle last night, getting seven wins from Joseph Toto out of 11 attempts, and a two out of three performance from first year man Bobby Faulkner, to help lead the Warriors to a 9-15 advantage at the face-off X.

In JV action, the JV team lost a close 4-3 game, a rematch and repeat of the first score and meeting between the two teams just a few weeks ago.  Dallas Daniel (2G) and Hunter Cole (1G 1A) each had two points in the close fought loss.

With their third win in a row, Webb is now 6-3 (2-2 Conf-4) on the year, while Northern Durham is 0-8 (0-3 Conf-4).  Webb next faces off against Jordan High School on April 12th, after spring break, while Northern comes back from the break with an April 9th match against Riverside.

Game Notes: Three wins in a row sets a new school record for longest winning streak...With their win tonight, Webb's defense improves to 8th in the state in G.A.A. as of this morning, Friday, March 29th (4.78)...Anderson has scored at least one point in the last five games...With his goals tonight and assists tonight, Terry now holds the school record for consecutive games with at least one point (10)...Terry also has tied the school record for assists in a season (10)...Campos is now 3-0 as a starter this season and, in the last two games, has allowed just three goals.
