WARRIORS NET FIVE GOALS IN WIN

Behind the first ever shutout in school history, the Black and Red traveled to Southern Alamance High School in a re-match of a 13-1 win early in the season and walked away with win number two in the series.  It was the second game in as many days for the Warriors, who won against Roxboro Community School at home Tuesday 7-1.

The Warriors were without several starters and back-ups for the contest, leading to a slower start than usual.  The Black and Red got on the board with a first quarter goal from senior midfielder Joseph Toto, who picked up a ground ball near midfield and sprinted his way through the Patriots defense for the 1-0 lead.

In the second quarter, senior midfielder Jacob Ragland used a dodge from the right side to free himself and find the back of the net for his first goal since the Warriors' game at Jordan on March 15th.  The Warriors used a trick shot from sophomore Luke Hunt to push their lead to 3-0 with just a few minutes left in the first half.

The second half proved to be more of a defensive stand for both teams than the first half did, with the Warriors and Patriots finding it difficult to break through each team's defense and goalies.0 Teddy Anderson took a feed from Ragland to make the score 4-0 in the third quarter, while Rufus Terry in turn got a helper from Anderson in the fourth to make it 5-0 Warriors, the eventual final score.

While the scoring output was one of the lowest outputs on the year, the defense stood tall and forced the first shut-out in school history.  The Patriots couldn't get many shots on cage at all, and when they did, senior goalie Reggie Campos made several impressive saves to help earn the shutout, finishing with five total.  Terry and sophomore Luke Wheeless led the team with 9 ground balls each, while senior and junior close defenders Cedric Spence and Zach Watkins each caused four turnovers.  At the face-off X, Webb was dominant, with junior face-off man Cam Blanchard winning six of the 8 attempts on the evening (several were not taken due to penalties).

The Warriors improve to 5-3 (1-2 Conf-4) while Southern Alamance drops to 2-6 (1-4 Conf-6).  Both teams have spring next week, with Webb's next game not until a Friday, April 12th showdown with Jordan High School at home, and Southern's next game against cross-town rival Eastern Alamance High School.

Game Notes: It was Hunt and Toto's first career goals...It was Campos' second win of his career, pushing his record overall as a starter this year to 2-0, and 2-1 all time...With his goal tonight, Terry is now tied for the Career Points Scoring Streak record (consecutive games with a point; 9, dating back to 2012's final game against Northern Durham).
