IN JV ACTION, WARRIORS JV WIN FIRST GAME IN TEAM HISTORY

After a slow first half that only saw one goal between the two teams, the Warriors got a spark from senior Teddy Anderson in the form of a hat trick, the first of his career, five points from classmate Rufus Terry, and 14 saves in cage from goalie Christian Tilley to help the Warriors to a 7-1 victory. Anderson's goals gave the Warriors leads of 3-0, 5-0, and 6-0 under the Warrior Field lights against conference rival Roxboro Community School.

Not much happened in the first half, as both team defenses played exceptional, allowing only a goal from Terry off an assist from Jacob Ragland to be the difference maker heading into the locker room at break.  Tilley was able to make five saves in the first half to keep the clean sheet going, and the Warriors defense caused 7 turnovers as well.

In the second half, the Warriors jumped on the Bulldogs quickly, with junior attacker Brock Fuller and Anderson netting goals at 10:58 and 8:18 of the third quarter off assists from Ragland and Terry to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.  Fuller netted his second of the night, with one Warrior in the penalty box, at 3:32 remaining in the quarter off another Terry assist to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead heading into the final stretch.  The goal, as far as statistics show, is the first goal scored in a man down situation in the team's history.

With their spot in the drivers seat secure, Webb got another early goal from Anderson off of Ragland's third assist on the evening with just under two minutes gone by in the quarter to take a 5-0 lead.  Anderson completed the hat trick with his goal at 6:46 of the quarter, before Terry would round out the Warriors' total with under four minutes remaining.  Roxboro refused to become the first team shut out in Warrior history, though, as sophomore attacker Nick Allen, fresh off a four goal performance against Orange High School, snuck through the defense and scored with just over a minute and a half left in the game.

In JV action, the Warriors prevailed in overtime 4-3 over the Bulldogs.  It was Webb's first ever JV win, with sophomore midfielder Dallas Daniel breaking through two defenders on the wing and finding twine with a minute left in the first overtime session.

Anderson finished with four points (3G 1A) and Terry finished with five (2G 3A), while Ragland (3A) and Fuller (2G) capped off the point totals.  Defensively, Webb got two caused turnovers each from seniors Cedric Spence and Justin Wilbanks, junior Zach Watkins and sophomore LSM Luke Wheeless, while the four combined to grab 19 ground balls.  The Warriors also got a dominating performance by junior Cam Blanchard at the face-off X, winning 8 of 12 on the evening, including every face-off from the beginning of the second quarter to the beginning of the fourth quarter (six straight).

With their first conference win of the season, Webb moves to 4-3 (1-2 Conf-4) while Roxboro evens out at 3-3 (1-1 Conf-4).  Webb next faces off tomorrow night at Southern Alamance High School, while Roxboro hosts Riverside on Thursday.

Game Notes:  One goal allowed is a three way tie for fewest allowed in program history...As of the morning on Wendesday, March 27th, 2013, the Warriors defense ranks 17th in the state in G.A.A. according to www.laxpower.com (5.71)...Anderson's hat trick moves his goal scoring total on the year to four goals...It was the team's sixth hat trick of the year...The win moves Webb into third place in the conference (courtesy of tie breaker with Roxboro)...With his performance tonight, Terry is now one game shy of tying the school record for consecutive games with a point (record: 9).
