Warriors Prevail in Heated Rivalry Game

Orange High School, arguably Webb's fiercest rival, came to Warrior Field Wednesday night ready play but ultimately fell, as the Warriors used a five goal first half to help secure a 7-5 victory over the visiting Panthers.  It was the sixth all time meeting between the two rivals, a series Orange leads 4-2.

Orange got on the board first with a quick man-up goal to take the early 1-0 lead.  Webb answered with their own man-up goal from Rufus Terry, followed by a goal from senior attacker Antonio Jones.  Both goals were assisted by the feeding of junior Brock Fuller

With the score 2-1, Orange scored their second man-up goal of the night to knot it up at 2.  After this, Fuller took matters into his own hands as he netted the Warriors next three goals (with an Orange goal thrown into the mist of that) by using his feet to create time and room before burying them, giving the Warriors a 5-3 lead heading into the break.

The second half was a more defensive-minded effort, as senior Reggie Campos made several big saves for Webb while his Orange counterpart, junior Dylan McKinnon, came up big himself to keep the Webb lead at two.  Orange finally broke through to cut the lead to one, but Webb answered with goals from Jones in the third period and midfielder Teddy Anderson in the fourth, both assisted by sophomore  Luke Hunt.  Orange managed one more goal with the clock dwindling down, but it was too little too late as the Warriors prevailed 7-5.

Fuller led the Warriors with five points, while Orange was led a five point effort of their own from sophomore attacker Bowen Collins (2G 3A).  Seniors Thomas Doyle (2G 1A) and Blake Hall (1G) rounded out the points for Orange.  Defensively, Campos finished with nine saves to earn the win, while McKinnon finished well into the mid-teens.  Webb won the groundball battle 61-43, with 12 of those going to Terry and seniors Cedric Spence and Justin Wilbanks combining for 11 more.  At the face-off X, junior FOGO Cam Blanchard won 9 of 16 for Webb after getting off to a slow start.

In the JV game, the Panthers prevailed 9-0.

Webb improves to 3-2 (0-1 Conf-4) on the season, while last night's loss drops Orange to 1-4 (0-2 Conf-5).  Webb next sees action on Friday night against Durham Riverside High School, while the Panthers also host a game Friday against Roxboro Community School.
